The Women's Premier League (WPL) is here! The First season of the WPL will start in March 2023 in Mumbai, India. This has been a long wait. Since the start of the IPL (Indian Premier League), Indian Cricket Fans was waiting for the Women's Premier League. But it took almost 12 years. Yes, after 12 years of starting IPL, BCCI has finally taken the call for the Women's Premier League.
Why So Much Noise for WPL?
Well, it's the first big women's premier League starting, for which the BCCI has raised Rs. 4,669 crores (US$580 million) by selling the franchise rights through a bidding process. Apart from that, BCCI going to earn huge by selling Media Rights as well. After IPL, WPL is going to be the biggest-ever premier league in the cricket format.
How Many Teams are going to Play in WPL 2023?
As per the BCCI, 5 Teams from Bengaluru, Delhi, Gujarat, Lucknow, and Mumbai have won the franchise rights for the respective teams. The BCCI has allowed auctions for 5 teams as of now in WPL, more teams will be introduced by next year onwards.

Will the Schedule of WPL clash with IPL?
No, as the administrator of both League is the same, BCCI. BCCI has scheduled the calendar according. After Women's Cricketers get free from ICC Womens T20 World Cup 2023, they will play in WPL 2023.
The Auction of the players for WPL 2023 will start on 13th February 2023 in Mumbai. Each Team will get Rs.12 crore (US$1.5 million) to spend or for buying players. 5 WPL teams will have 12-15 players via auction.
Who Owns the Media Rights for WPL?
In January 2023, Viacom 18 won the Television and Media Rights for WPL for Rs. 951 crores (US$120 million) for the next 5 years of broadcasting.
