The winds are changing! Soon After the Government Changed in Maharashtra In July 2022, The Dream project of Prime minister Narendra Modi, The first bullet Train in India which will run between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, is back on track. The long pending Land Acquisition issue within Maharashtra state seems getting solved after BJP supported government came in July this year.
Longest Bullet Train Civil Work Pakg in Maharashtra
After inviting bids for Package C1 in July 2022 and for Package C2 in September 2022, NHSRCL (National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd) has invited bids for Package C3. Out of 8 Packages of the Bullet Train Project, 3 Packages fall in Maharashtra and the rest in Gujarat for This 508.18 km long high-speed rail project.
Package C3 is 135.450 km long civil work project, Which will be required to have an elevated track line between Shilphata and Zaroli Village (MH/GJ Border). And Elevated Bullet Train stations for Virar, Thane, and Boisar. To be precise, Package C3 Ends at the border of Maharashtra and Package C4 starts from Gujarat Border.

- Pre-bid Meeting – 20th December 2022.

Apart from that, contractors will need to build a Maintenance depot at thane, Tunnels, and Bullet Train Stations for Thane, Virar, and Boisar.
Challenges of Package C3
Apart from the hilly area of Virat – Thane and heavy rain in Maharashtra, there are at least 8 mountain tunnel falls in Package c3. Check the below details of the Locations of Tunnels in the Bullet Train Project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
While the Package Length is only 135 km but the tunnel work will take a lot of time with the unfriendly weather condition. No doubt the tunnels are of short length mostly and will not take much longer time but surely will require more manpower and funds to finish within a time frame.
Why Tender was late invited for Package C3?
While the Work has been already awarded for all packages of Gujarat in 2022, the land acquisition issue was stuck in Maharashtra. Till June 2022, out of 298 hectares of Land required in Maharashtra for Bullet trains, only 150 hectares were acquired, but within the last 6 months, the entire balance of land has been handed over to NHSRCL by the Government of Maharashtra.
Current Status of Work in Gujarat
As the tender bidding is in process in Maharashtra, the Gujarat portion of the Bullet train has already finished 188.28 km of Pile Work, 100 km of Pier Work, and 7.84 km of Girders Launched.
